Social workers and educators of the Association of Social Work Education in Africa (ASWEA) from almost 20 African countries attended the third regional conference of the association for social work education (1977). Can you identify any of the social workers in this video? Where are they? Do you have their contact? Please inform us at asw@africasocialwork (Video - British Pathe)

Watch video of meeting held in 1977 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The one speaking in French to delegates is Government Interior Minister of Senegal, Ibrahima Niang. the rest have not yet been identified.

From the Biography of Social Development in Africa

The Biography of Social Development is revised constantly. Two new additions were made recently as follows:

Selassie Seyoum Gebre (1936-)

Gebre played a huge part in the Association of Social Work Education in Africa (ASWEA) and development of social work in Ethiopia. Learn more about the roles Gebre played.

Arega Yimam (died c1989)

Yimam was instrumental in the formation and administration of the Association of Social Work Education in Africa (ASWEA). He was an academic and a founder of the social development approach in Africa in Africa in 1972. Learn more about the roles Yimam played. Yimam died in 1989 just before finishing his PhD, the same year the ASWEA stopped operations.
