Mr Phillip Bohwasi is a senior social worker and a Founding Lecturer at Africa University, School of Social Work. He obtained a Diploma in Social Work and a Bachelor’s of Social Work degree from the University of Zimbabwe. He is also a holder of a Master of Policy
Studies degree jointly conferred by the University of Zimbabwe and the University of Fort Hare. He is a social entrepreneur and has worked in the field of community enterprise development specialising in small business and entrepreneurship development in Zimbabwe and working with largely women and youth community social enterprises and social entrepreneurs. He is a founder of several social development institutions and a board member of many including the Zimbabwe Association of Micro Finance
Organisations (ZAMFI). He founded Zimbabwe Opportunity Industrialisations Centres (ZOIC) in 1998. He was the vice president of the National Association of Social Workers of Zimbabwe (1990 – 2000) and participated in the reforms that saw the development of the social work legal framework in Zimbabwe. He became the second Chairman of the regulatory body, the Council of Social Workers (CSW) for 10 years from 2006-2016. His areas of research interest include building of strong social work institutions in Africa, indigenous social work intervention, social policy planning, community resilience building and social entrepreneurship.
