Supervision involves (1) a peer or senior social worker (supervisor) working with a peer or junior social worker (supervisee) to understand what they do in their work and support them (supportive supervision) (2) a manager providing leadership and oversight over a social worker’s work (managerial or administrative supervision) (3) a qualified and experienced social worker assessing the work and performance of a student and imparting their knowledge (teaching, educational or training supervision). (4) a social work regulatory body checking if a worker meets and complies with regulatory or legal requirements (regulatory supervision).
