Wakanda is not really a country. It is a fictional geographical location, presumably situated in East Africa. It is the main setting for the 2020 film by Marvel Studios, Black Panther. The film has been hailed for its main themes of decolonization, independence, Pan-Africanism, Blackness and gender equality seen through powerful women characters. The main character, a black person, Chadwick Boseman, commonly known as King T’challa died in 2020. The other characters, also black, are Shuri, T’challa’s sister played by Letitia Wright as well as Nakia played by Lupita Nyong’o and Danai Gurira who plays Okoye. Their language is Kanda (English Wakandan) and the citizens are called Kanda (baKanda, vaKanda etc).
