The unique aspects of Ubuntu worldview

The aspects that set Ubuntu apart from other philosophies are:

Aspect Uniqueness
View of the individual

Ngabantu - The individual is viewed through the family and community.

 

View of the family

Ukama - The family is a large entity, not just parents and their children but and their extended family and tribal family.

 

View of community

Ujamaa - Collectivity is a key value of being a community.

 

View of the environment

Imvelo mazingira or isidumile - The environment and people do not exist separately, they are one.

 

View of the spiritual

Uroho - The spiritual, the environmental and the human, exist together, they are one.

 

View of society

Ujamii - Everything is interconnected, society should be viewed as a whole (wholistic view).
