Wassie Kebede
Wassie Kebede was born in Northwestern province of Ethiopia in 1968. Currently he is associate professor of social work and social development and has already applied for full professor in social work. Wassie was the first graduate of PhD in social work and social development from Addis Ababa University in 2009. He served the School of Social Work as the first dean to lead the School by Ethiopian national. Wassie served the International Association of Schools of Social Work (IASSW) and the Association of School of Social Work in Africa (ASSWA) a a secretary from 2011-2016. Wassie has contributed for the development of social work programs in Ethiopia and other African countries such as Eswatini, Ghana and Tanzania. He has published journal articles, books and book chapters. Currently he has a total of 33 publications (22 journal articles, 7 book chapters and 4 books). Wassie has also six publications in conference proceedings. Wassie is very much courageous to advance social work education in Ethiopia and Africa. He has published some articles on the past, present and future of social work. He believes that social work in Africa is yet to grow and mature. Therefore, linking the past to the present and anticipating the future from the present conditions of social work is what he is concerned much about (information supplied by Professor Kebede in 2024).
