Call for journal articles on research methodology
The journals listed below invite researchers to submit articles on research methodology that share innovative approaches, techniques, and best practices in the fields the journals focus on. The main aim of doing this is for researchers to share their experiences, insights, and expertise in research methodology in order to promote methodological advancements and rigor in African research. The call is for articles that focus on research methodology, including but not limited to:
- African Journal of Social Work https://ajsw.africasocialwork.net
- Journal of Development Administration https://jda.africasocialwork.net
- The Journal of Social Issues in Non-Communicable Conditions and Disability https://sinccd.africasocialwork.net
- Journal of Ubuntu – https://ubuntu.africasocialwork.net
- Innovative research designs
- Novel data collection and analysis techniques
- Methodological challenges and solutions
- Critical reflections on research methodology
- Comparative analyses of different methodologies
The benefits of publishing methodology are as follows:
- Quicken the research writing, reporting and review process – when a methodology is already published, researchers can use the same methodology, making the writing, reporting, review and publication process quicker. Simply use or cite the published method.
- Reduce manuscript rejection for yourself and others – when they use published methodologies, researchers can minimize the risk of rejection due to methodological flaws.
- Strengthen research – published methodologies allow researchers to refine and improve their approaches, leading to more reliable research findings.
- Facilitate development, documentation and therefore usage of African methods in research.
Illustration: Nguni, a researcher in Namibia publishes a methodology named Indaba methods and techniques in research in 2025. In the published article, Nguni (2025) provides five steps when using the indaba methodology. A researcher at the University of Ngozi in Burundi is doing research using indaba methodology and uses Nguni (2025)’s steps. This reduces the amount of time the researcher in Burundi needs to develop a methodology, and it makes their writing and reporting work easy. For editors and reviewers, it makes the editing and review process quicker.
Submitted articles should include:
- A specific name and clear description of the research methodology or approach.
- How the methodology or approach was created.
- Specific steps for applying the methodology or approach.
- A discussion of the benefits and limitations of the methodology.
- Example/s or case study/ies illustrating the application of the methodology.
- Critical reflections on the methodology, including potential biases and areas for improvement.
- Name, email and affiliation of author.
There is no deadline for this call, articles will be accepted throughout the year.
To submit, go to the journal for contact details.
