André Matsoua
André Matsoua was a spiritual and anti-colonial leader from what is now the Republic of
Congo. He led a movement that combined Catholicism with local belief systems. Arrested
and imprisoned by French authorities, he died in custody under unclear circumstances. His
legacy endures in religious and nationalist movements in Central Africa.
