Edward Mutesa II
Edward Mutesa II was the Kabaka of Buganda and the first President of post-independence
Uganda. He attempted to balance traditional authority with modern politics. Tensions with
Prime Minister Milton Obote led to his removal and exile. He died in London in 1969. His
reign marked the complexities of merging kingdoms into a republic.
