Gamal Abdel Nasser
Gamal Abdel Nasser was President of Egypt from 1956 until his death in 1970 and a leading
voice in Arab nationalism and African liberation. He nationalised the Suez Canal and
opposed Western control over Middle Eastern and African affairs. Nasser supported various
anti-colonial movements across Africa. His policies included land reform, industrialisation,
and education.
