JJ Roberts
Joseph Jenkins Roberts was Liberia’s first President and played a key role in shaping the
country after its founding by freed African Americans. He served several terms and worked
to secure Liberia’s international recognition. His leadership established institutions of
governance. Roberts remains a central figure in Liberia’s early nationhood.
