Menelik II
Menelik II was Emperor of Ethiopia and successfully defended the country against Italian
invasion at the Battle of Adwa in 1896. This victory preserved Ethiopia’s independence
during the colonial period. He expanded Ethiopia’s territory and modernised infrastructure,
including the introduction of railways and electricity. Menelik remains a revered figure in
Ethiopian history.
