Ooni Luwo Gbagida

Ooni Luwo Gbagida was the only female ruler in the sacred Ife dynasty of the Yoruba people
in present-day Nigeria. Her reign in the 10th or 11th century is remembered for architectural
development and justice. She remains a rare example of precolonial female leadership in
Yoruba history.
