Sundiata Keita
Sundiata Keita founded the Mali Empire in the 13th century, uniting the Mandé people after
defeating the Sosso kingdom. He established laws and social structures that formed the basis
for a stable and prosperous state. His story is preserved in the oral Epic of Sundiata, passed
down by griots. He is seen as a cultural and political ancestor in the region.
