Pan-African Women’s Organisation (PAWO)

Africa’s Women’s Day was founded by the Pan-African Women’s Organisation (PAWO). PAWO was formed 0n 31 July 1962 in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania and is a Specialised Agency of the African Union (AU) dedicated to gender equality and women’s empowerment. The day commemorates the role played by our foremothers, and the roles women play today in African society – in the home, in classes, in laboratories, in fields, health, mines, oceans, as well as in security, research, trade, finance, Africa religion, culture, politics and development.

Call for papers

The People-Centred: Journal of Development Administration (JDA), which has a 2 out of 3 star AJOL rating, is calling for manuscripts for a special issue on Africa, Gender and Development to be published in October 2024.
