King Nkanga Mvika
King Nkanga Mvika was a ruler in the Kongo Kingdom, which thrived between the 14th and
19th centuries in Central Africa. He ruled under a system that recognised matrilineal or
bilineal succession. The kingdom had complex diplomatic ties with European powers,
particularly Portugal. Mvika’s reign reflects early African statecraft and resistance to
domination.
