The slogan – Aluta continua
The slogan aluta continua which is Portuguese for the struggle continues, was created by the first President of Mozambique’s struggle organisation, FRELIMO Dr Eduardo Chivambo Mondlane (1920 – 1969. When Mondlane was assisinated in Tanzania, Samora Machel (1933 – 1986) became leader and he popularised the slogan. Machel was president from independence from the Portuguese in until he was assassinated via a plan crash in 1979.

He is remembered for high moral values, selflessness, fight against corruption, focus on making people more productive, poverty eradication programs and decolonisation. His daughter, Olivia, said muntu was his dominant value.
