Haile Selassie I
Haile Selassie I was Emperor of Ethiopia from 1930 to 1974 and a central figure in the
modern history of Africa. He appealed to the League of Nations during Italy’s invasion in the
1930s and later became a symbol of resistance and Pan-Africanism. He was instrumental in
founding the Organisation of African Unity. His fall came through a revolution in 1974.
