Nelson Mandela
Nelson Mandela led the African National Congress and spent 27 years in prison for opposing
apartheid in South Africa. He became the country’s first black President in 1994 and pursued
reconciliation. His presidency focused on nation-building and constitutional democracy.
Mandela is a global icon of peace and justice.
