Call for Editor: Conclusions Africa
Conclusions Africa is an ASWDNet initiative established in 2020. It is a serial publication positioned between a professional magazine and a peer-reviewed journal, focusing on social development in Africa. It publishes Expert Papers, Guidance Papers and Novel Conclusions. We are seeking a committed expert to revamp and independently lead the publication.
The role
The Editor of Conclusions Africa will take responsibility for relaunching and running the publication on an ongoing basis. This is a voluntary position. The Editor will be supported to communicate with the ASWDNet network and its members across Africa and the diaspora. The publication can be run by an individual or an institution.
Who we are looking for
We are looking for someone who:
- Has demonstrated expertise in social development, not social work
- Has experience in academic or professional publishing, or a strong interest in building that experience
- Is committed to African-led knowledge production and to positioning Africa from a place of strength
- Can work independently and take initiative in rebuilding a publication from the ground up
- Is committed to the long-term sustainability of the publication
About Conclusions Africa
Conclusions Africa is not a journal. It sits between a professional magazine and an academic journal and accepts shorter, more accessible contributions. The publication focuses on social development across the African continent. Examples of what can be published include research summaries on development topics, evidence-based conclusions drawn from practice or policy, expert guidance on issues such as food security, urban development, community livelihoods, social protection or environmental sustainability, and opinion or experiential pieces grounded in development work.
Publication types
- Research summary — a concise summary of an existing research publication, up to 800 words, making research accessible to a wider audience. This is most suitable for students.
- Conclusions — a short piece presenting findings, lessons or conclusions drawn from practice, policy engagement, a project or research
- Expert, Practice or Guidance Paper — a structured contribution sharing expertise, recommendations or guidance on a development topic for students, practitioners, organisations or policymakers
This is an important opportunity
Editing Conclusions Africa counts towards continuing professional development, strengthens your CV and provides a platform for promoting your institution and its work across the ASWDNet network.
