DACCS 2026, we are ready for 16 June: 152 registered participants, 28 speakers
By Lwazi Mavuso, Chair of the Day of the African Child Conference for Students (DACCS)
On 16 June 2026, we are holding the fourth DACCS, and I can say with confidence that the organising committee is ready. This year, 152 people have registered from across the continent, and we have 28 speakers lined up. That is double the number of speakers we had last year, which tells me that word is getting out and students are taking this seriously.
DACCS was started in 2023 with a straightforward purpose: give students a space to present their work, build skills, and take on real leadership roles in organising an academic event. The students run this conference. We select the theme, review abstracts, chair sessions, and report back. This year’s theme is a call to action on clean water, sanitation, and child dignity, which connects directly to the Day of the African Child observed on 16 June each year.
I am proud of what the committee has put together. The growth in registrations and speakers from one year to the next is not an accident. It reflects the work of a dedicated group of students from Zimbabwe, Uganda, Nigeria, South Africa, Eswatini, and beyond who give their time to make this happen.
